Gisela Lange Music Centre (GLMZ)
After school, the GLMZ offers learners and parents from the DSK, as well as people outside the school community, the opportunity to book private instrumental tuition to explore and learn music – both practical and theory.
Opening Hours
Monday – Friday from end of school day
Costs & Bursaries
As set out in the Information & Guidelines for Parents & Learners the recommended tuition fee for 2025 amounts to R 430 per full hour (pro rata for shorter lessons).
In the case of financial constraints we encourage you to apply for a bursary from the Ubuntu Fund. This needs to be approved by the bursar and typically covers 50% of costs. Note that the GLMZ can only recommend a learner for a bursary. Whether it can actually be awarded remains the discretion of the administrators of the Ubuntu Fund.
Rental instruments
The DSK owns a substantial collection of instruments (including guitars, flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, horns, trombones, violins, violas, cellos and double basses) that are available for rent. If, on occasion, a specific instrument (or suitable size) is not available, the GLMZ will refer you to suitable alternative rental companies.
GLMZ Faculty
The musicians teaching at the GLMZ are all experienced instrumentalists and dedicated tutors. They are not employed by the DSK, but receive their remuneration through tuition fees for individual music lessons. It is therefore crucial that learners should be on time and not miss lessons without prior notice.
The GLMZ faculty consists of the following personnel:
Piano/ Keyboard: Cherry Olivier, Sigrid Chicken, Daniel Fritz, Brigitte Botha
Guitar / Bass guitar: Nick Turner
Singing / Voice training / Percussion: Lisa Bauer
